the almost casualties

the baby animals were out in full force tonight.  on our walk we saw a teeny tiny lizard and two baby bunnies which made us feel like two very lucky people.  unfortunately i didn't have my camera with me on the walk.  we stopped to stare at them and went on and on about how cute the tiny creatures were.  za husband even attempted to get close enough to a bunny to pick it up but wasn't happening.  besides that there was a group of quail in the backyard, so we did what any animal loving couple would do and tried to get closer to them.  the parent birds jumped up on the block wall and the babies flocked behind a giant tumbleweed that was in the corner of the yard.  one of the bigger quail came running at us as fast as it could when we got closer to the tumbleweed and it totally scared us. haha big wimps.  anyway the babies scattered around the yard eventually and then i started to feel really bad for breaking up the family.  just as two of the babies ran across the yard this girl....
noticed them and i panicked and told za husband she was going to kill them.  he thought my statement was silly until bella grabbed one of the tiny birds.  we started yelling at her to let the bird go and luckily she listened and the little fella got up and ran.

i was able to get a couple shots of the tiny critters as they ran around the house.  not too easy to get a good picture since they are incredibly fast but i tried.
as we were driving to the gym i kept telling Will that i felt so guilty for getting too close to them and breaking up the family.  he assured me that they would all find one another again and i actually think they did[and really hope] because they were calling for each other after the big shake up and one by one the babies would disappear.  next time i know if i decide to get a closer look at baby quail bella needs to be in the house so that i can avoid having a nervous breakdown while almost witnessing a baby bird death.

  1. This is a funny/cute story!!! I actually really kinda like quail. Naughty Bella! But I guess that's only natural huh? We have caught the cats here recently at home attempting to climb up on the very high shelf in my bedroom to attack Mia's new goldfish! Mia MAKES us keep our door closed all the time now for the sake of her new goldfish firedrop! :)

  2. Yeah she was only doing what her instincts told her to do. I'm so glad she listened to us. I didn't know Mia got a goldfish. I love the name!!! How did she come up with firedrop?
