4 minus 2 equals 2

we will no longer have scenes quite like these.
no more kitty piles of 4 because....

two of the little ones went to their new home today.
i've been a little sick about it all weekend.
i was thrilled knowing that they were going to a wonderful home where they will be loved like crazy by a very close friend and that they were going together, but so sad that they didn't know what was coming.
they were just going about their business of playing and eating and sleeping then all the sudden they are packed up in a kitty carrier and heading to unfamiliar territory that doesn't have their mama and their other two litter mates.  i got a little teary as they left our front door.  i put two of their familiar toys in the carrier with them hoping that it would somehow make the transition easier.
these little ones will get names when their owner decides what is best but our names for them during the last 10 weeks were....
licorice
the super fiesty funny playful little boy.

marshmallow
the overachieving cuddly sweet little girl.

looks like pellegrino is telling them goodbye in this picture but really he was after a bug.
i hope they are comfortable in their new home and i hope mama kitty doesn't get worried when she realizes they really aren't here anymore.

good thing we still have little pellegrino and houndstooth to keep everyone distracted.

sunday morning shenanigans

 busted!
the 4 naughty babies totally destroyed one plant and got to work on a couple more when i was sleeping in last weekend.  i walk out into the living room and this is what i see.

destruction.
i couldn't really get too mad because they were so cute.  it was more of a lesson for me that the plants needed to be moved to a safer spot....at least what is left of them.

when it gets hot

you know it's getting hot outside when the floorboard of my vehicle looks like this after a few days.
or when we find a spider the size of my hand on the back porch.
i am not joking, this spider caused all sorts of craziness at our house a few nights ago.
a ruckus that involved screaming, bad words, chills, bug spray, a bright light, etc.
i have a few pictures of it (that za husband so kindly took because i couldn't manage to be outside at all after seeing it, this coming from a girl who grew up in the mountains and has witnessed all sorts of terrible spiders).  i could not imagine not documenting something so insanely big and scary but to save you from being really terrified i won't post pictures.  i can barely stand to look at them without getting chills and i'm pretty sure a couple people who read this blog would say lots of bad words to me if i posted the pictures so just believe me....it was awful!
next time will calls for me to come look at the craziest spider he's ever seen...i think i'll pass.
the creepy crawlies that come out with this weather are just one reason i am not a fan of summer.

flashback friday #19

me.  1982-ish.  at gram and gramps house.  i am holding the doll i named bea, she was my most treasured possesion from the age of 1-5 and maybe even after.  holding bea and sucking my thumb was the pastime of choice.

there are moments when i crave these simpler days.

always good amongst the bad

when we have bad moments in the day i am thrilled to still find the good.
the good comes in these forms today:

*a letter from my sweet friend matthew.  especially when it starts out like this... "dear skye I miss you in my heart..."
and ends like this.... "skye please smile lovely.  i miss you sweetheart"
♥ him.

*getting the electric bill in the mail and discovering that we don't owe a dime because we had a credit from a year ago when we moved into our house.  oh and the added bonus is we won't have to pay very much next month either because there is still credit to be used up.

*coming home to the sweetest little fur baby kittens that shower me with cuddles.

watching them play and sleep and even get into things they shouldn't makes me smile.  maybe later i'll tell you a story of what happens when i sleep in and leave the wild ones to themselves on a sunday morning.

*last but certainly not least the good, is knowing that we have love.  as stressful as life can sometimes be at  least we have each other and that is terribly important....the most important.

i can't think of anyone i'd rather ride the roller coasters of life with.

our home

just a little over a year in this place and i finally feel like certain rooms that lacked the right amount of charm/decor/organization are finally coming together.
sometimes you can't rush that kind of stuff.  i wanted to have it all put together and picture perfect instantly but each room has finally evolved into what i dreamt of and i'm sure that will continue to happen as we live here.
after looking at tons of houses this was the only one that felt right.  it spoke to me, unlike the rest.
we figured it would be a bit of an ordeal buying a house, but we were newlyweds with a dream that seemed attainable.  shortly after we started the process of getting the house we discovered that someone had done some very dishonest things which would set us back tremendously.  from start to finish this was 6 months full of extension fees, 2 different mortgage companies....the second one being the best in the world, letting the house go back on the market, us moving in with my mom, losing hope, being very thankful my sister was our realtor, fighting a fight that should have never been ours and feeling seriously hateful about it, the list goes on.
but i guess it really is true that when something is meant to be it will be.
against all odds this became our happy place
now for a tour of a few rooms....
our living room

our kitchen

our bedroom

our bathroom

my art room/the spare has been one of those areas i just couldn't seem to get right but all of the sudden it feels like the inspirational space i wanted after a few projects that were recently completed

where i make messes and masterpieces
just for fun here are the additions to my skeleton key wall
i was extremely lucky to find these super cool vintage door plates to add to my key collection.

we are still thrilled and sometimes in awe that our dream finally became a reality.
i find a lot of joy in making it more ours each day.

1.6.11

pellegrino....the kitty, not the drink.

i never thought i'd say this but it's official....we are crazy cat lovers.
our original intention was to keep one kitten from the litter.
i didn't plan on falling in love with another kitten and keeping him
it just sorta happened.
i mean look at how adorably handsome he is.
the blue eyes, the pretty markings, and i can't forget to mention that he has a very slight underbite which i think is extra cute.....adds character.

he also has the sweetest disposition.  when i pick him up he is soft and cuddly, he lets me cradle him like a baby and usually closes his eyes like he's blissfully happy.
when he's acting all fiesty and i go to touch him instead of nibbling and scratching my fingers he licks them.
when he can't find me he lets out the cutest little squeaky noise that sounds a little like a meow but not really.
i'll call for him and he follows the sound of my voice then seems extremely content when he sees me.
he makes similar funny noises when playing with his siblings.

\
notice the open mouth....yeah that's the underbite.
makes me want to squeeze him ♥

the other reason we decided to keep him is because houndstooth really seems to love him.  i catch them being sweet with each other all the time.  cuddling, wrestling, cleaning each others ears.
it's simply meant to be.
oh and his name....
we shall call him
pellegrino.
